Paniolo Express Dinner Train

It wasn't until 1969 that the sugar train had new life breathed into it by A.W. "Mac" McKelvy who got together with the Makai Corporation and created the Lahaina, Ka'anapali & Pacific Railroad. Better known as "The Sugar Cane Train", the line has operated passenger service from Lahaina to Pu'ukoli'i (just north of Ka'anapali) daily for over 30 years.

Since 1970, over five million tourists to Maui have ridden the train making it one of West Maui's most popular attractions. With a blast of its steam whistle, the locomotive chugs along a six-mile long stretch of track at a leisurely pace, as its passengers are entertained Hawaiian-style by our narrators.

Every Thursday (and Tuesday during summer), the train leaves out of Pu'ukoli'i Station just before sunset and heads west toward Lahaina. After the relaxing ride, you'll disembark at Ka'anapali Station, where you'll be greeted by the paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) and served a delicious all-you-can-eat Hawaiian style BBQ dinner, catered by the Sheraton Maui. Their entertainers join in the fun with live Hawaiian music and hula dancing for everyone!
