Description
Journey on horseback from the rim of Haleakala Crater at 9,423-feet to the floor of the world's largest dormant volcano! Along the way, your informative guide will tell you about the history of Haleakala, its geology, and rare plants and animals indigenous to Maui.

You will meet at the House of the Sun Visitors Center (9,423-foot elevation) for a continental breakfast and safety briefing before you're paired with the perfect horse for your riding experience. Along the way your knowledgeable guide will provide narration on the plants, animals and area history. Midway through your journey, you will enjoy a fresh wholesome lunch of deli style sandwiches, chips, fruit, cool fruit drinks and bottled water. Following lunch you will travel back along the crater floor and begin the assent along the rim of the crater.

You may choose from the following rides:

  • Junction Ride (Beginner): This is an 8-mile horseback ride to Ka Mao O Pele Junction and return. You will spend approximately 4 hours on your horse. Upon arrival at the House of the Sun Visitors Center you will enjoy a continental breakfast of Kona Coffee, juice and fresh pastries and midway through your journey at Ka Mao O Pele Junction you will hitch your horse for a fresh deli lunch before heading back up the trail. Clients are provided with windbreaker jacket/pants and gloves. *This is a very popular tour and space is limited - 7 riders maximum per trip.
  • Cabin Ride (Intermediate to Advanced): This is a 12-mile horseback ride to Kapalaoa Cabin and return. You will spend approximately 5 ½ to 6 hours on your horse. Upon arrival at the House of the Sun Visitors Center you will enjoy a continental breakfast of Kona Coffee, juice and fresh pastries and midway through your journey at Kapalaoa Cabin you'll hitch your horse for a fresh deli lunch before heading back up the trail. Clients are provided with windbreaker jacket/pants and gloves. *This is a long ride and only recommended if you ride at least once or twice a week.

We had a great experience taking the horseback ride to the creater. I't had the most spectacular views. Make sure to bring a camera, sun glasses, sunscrean and dress warm!

RESTRICTIONS:
- Participants must be 12 years and older.

- Riders MUST weigh less than 230lbs (for the safety of the hardworking horses).

- Pregnant women may not participate.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Participants will be required to sign an acknowledgement of risk upon arrival.

- Please wear long pants, covered shoes and a light jacket or sweatshirt.

- Please be sure to bring $10.00 for entrance fee into Haleakala National Park (price subject to change).
